HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo men's basketball team soared past Central Methodist, 92-70, Sunday evening in the title game of the 2022 Big Island Holiday Classic championship game at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones was named Most Valuable Player after finishing with a double-double.
The game was close through the first seven minutes, but Tait-Jones scored six points as part of a Vulcans' 8-0 run to pull away from the Eagles. Hawai'i Hilo went on another 10-0 run near the end of the first half to add to its lead on the way to victory.
Carlos Ramsey Jr. and Darren Williams were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Central Methodist's Everett Stubblefield, Valley City State's Hunter Lyman and Milligan's Dylan Bartley were also selected to the All-Tournament Team.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo improved to 7-1 overall (3-0 Pacific West Conference) as Central Methodist fell to a 7-5 record.
The Vulcans will return to Pacific West Conference action with a men's and women's doubleheader against Chaminade on Dec. 31 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
