HILO, Hawai'i–Senior Skylar Thomas had the walk-off hit in extra innings to give the Vulcans the 2-1 win over Dominican University.
The Vulcans (9-4, 7-2 PacWest Conference) scored first. Jayda Favela reached home off a bunted ball by Brandee Chinen in the fourth inning (1-0).
UHH held the 1-0 lead until the Penguins (8-18, 5-12 PacWest) made their mark in the sixth, evening the playing field 1-1.
After a scoreless seventh, the Vulcans took the game in the eighth. Angel Prewitt began the inning with a shot up the middle. Jayda Favela then advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Chinen came up next and moved Prewitt over to third, setting up Thomas for the game-winning hit with two outs.
Alexis Lacy threw a gem for the Vulcans where she tossed eight-solid innings. Lacy only allowed six hits and one run in the extra-inning game, retiring seven Penguins at the plate.
