HILO, HAWAI'I–This week's Pepsi Athletes of the Week are Chloe Domingo (Ewa Beach, Hawai`i / Campbell HS/) from the softball team and Martin Soukal (Brno, Czech Republic/) from the men's tennis team.
Chloe Domingo (Ewa Beach, Hawai`i / Campbell HS/), Softball
The softball team just returned home from a 15-game road trip. Last weekend the Vulcans wrapped up their trip with their annual appearance at the Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State in Turlock, Calif.
Domingo went 7-17 in the five-game tournament with two extra-base hits, scoring three times and driving in five RBIs. Three of Domingo's five RBIs were scored in UHH's 7-5 win over Cal State San Bernardino. Domingo had the game-tying double (5-5) in the fifth and chipped in the final insurance run in the sixth (7-5).
Martin Soukal (Brno, Czech Republic/), Men's Tennis
The men's tennis team captured a crucial win against No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday (Apr. 2). Soukal, the No. 3 ranked player in the nation, set the tone for the Vulcans by winning the first singles match after UHH dropped the doubles point.
Soukal topped HPU's Jan Pleva 6-1, 6-3 in 49 minutes which tied the match up 1-1 for UH Hilo. Soukal improved 12-2 from the first court on his senior day.
