IRVINE, California – After an exciting opening day of action, the Hawai'i Hilo softball team continued the Concordia Kickoff Classic on Saturday with defeats by No. 2 CSU Dominguez Hills, 4-2, and Cal State East Bay, 11-6.
The Vulcans started the day early to take on the second-ranked team in the nation and evened the score late at two apiece in the top of the sixth inning, but Dominguez Hills answered back with three hits in the bottom frame to score a pair of runs to take the win.
Against Cal State East Bay, the Pioneers put up 11 runs through the top half of the fourth inning as the Vulcans responded with five runs on four hits in the following frame, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the steep uphill climb.
