FREMONT, California – Two days after throwing out the first pitch for game two, the Hawai'i Hilo softball team continued action with Holy Names and came out victorious, 5-4, Thursday morning at Ohlone College.
The game originally started Monday afternoon but was suspended after four complete innings due to darkness. After two days of inclement weather, the two squads finally continued play with the Vulcans leading, 4-1, in the top of the fifth.
The extra time off seemed to revitalize the Hawks as they were able to plate three runs in the bottom of the sixth with RBI hits from Iris Bejarano and Celeste Pacheco.
But the Vulcans responded in the seventh with Rayna-Marie White's RBI single up the middle to score Dyoni Garcia for the game-winning run.
Alexis Lacy then put the Hawks down in order to close out the game for her fifth victory of the season.
Jayda Favela had a 3-for-3 outing at the plate and drove in a run with an RBI single through the right side earlier in the third inning.
GAME 3: PLAY SUSPENDED AFTER FIVE INNINGS
UPDATE (04/04/23): Play is unable to be resumed at a later time and the game will be marked as completed after five innings.
The third game of the scheduled four-game series was also started Thursday afternoon but play was halted after five complete innings because of a scheduling conflict with the host Ohlone College softball team.
It was another action-packed first two innings as the score was tied, 4-4, with the Vulcans adding a pair of runs in the fourth inning before the Hawks jumped ahead with a four-run bottom of the fifth to make it an 8-6 game at time of suspension.
Arrangements are in the process of being finalized to continue play at a later date with game four to follow.
If unsuccessful, game three will later be finalized as a complete game with the Hawks winning, 8-6.
