PEMBROKE, North Carolina – Despite playing just one of four scheduled games last week while coming out victorious, the Hawai'i Hilo baseball team jumped up seven spots to land at No. 16 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Poll released earlier Wednesday.
The Vulcans defeated Biola, 7-1, in their lone victory of the week and totaled 170 points by voters.
Hawai'i Hilo already took a four-game series, three games to one, earlier this week against No. 11 Point Loma Nazarene, who remained at the same ranking. Votes for each weekly ballot are submitted by the end of the previous weekend.
No. 18 East Stroudsburg, No. 20 Arkansas Tech and No. 23 Quincy replaced previously-ranked Wingate (14), Henderson State (20) and Drury (21) in the top 25.
Reigning National Champion North Greenville (17-2) remained at No. 1 after garnering 500 points and all 20 first-place votes.
In the West Region rankings, the Vulcans moved up one spot to No. 3, swapping with Cal Poly Pomona of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State University San Bernardino — ranked fourth in the national poll — holds the top spot in the West with PLNU at No. 2. Azusa Pacific remained at No. 6.

Hawai'i Hilo made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II rankings earlier this season at No. 25 after starting with wins over then-15th-ranked Augustana and Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason favorite Northwest Nazarene.
The Vulcans will be back in action this weekend at home to continue Pacific West Conference play against Azusa Pacific.
