TURLOCK, California – The Hawai'i Hilo softball team capped its five-game slate in the Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock with two consecutive victories, the most recent Sunday morning in a 3-1 victory over Simon Fraser at Pedretti Field.
The Red Leafs got on the scoreboard first with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, but that would be all the runs produced by SFU.
The Vulcans jumped ahead in the bottom of the second with back-to-back doubles from Lauren Avalos and Chloe Domingo followed by a base hit from Trinity Favela. Domingo added Hawai'i Hilo's third run in the third inning with an RBI single to make it a 3-1 score.
For Domingo, her first hit of the game marked a career milestone for the fifth-year senior as she notched her 100th career hit.
The game was called after four innings due to Simon Fraser needing to catch a flight. NCAA rules dictate that games need to go five innings to be considered complete, but a stipulation does allow for early completion in tournament play due to travel conflicts with prior agreement between coaches.
