HILO, Hawai'i – Tom Vorkastner assisted on two scores with an own goal ultimately dooming visiting Jessup as Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer took a 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference action at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
Hawai'i Hilo netted all three of its scores within a six-minute period midway through the opening half of play. Gabriel Gallardo lasered in a top-right corner score in the 25th minute, but Jessup's Isaac Morfin managed to quickly tie the game back up just a few minutes later. In the 30th minute, Brian Trujillo headed in a ball through heavy traffic off a corner kick by Vorkastner.
Just under 60 seconds later, Kanata Taira raced down the left side of the field and sent the ball in from the corner as it went off the goalkeeper's hands with a Warriors defender sliding in behind and putting the ball through the goal.
Late in the match, Eduardo Guillen managed to make it a one-score affair after stealing the ball off a Vulcans pass back to the goalkeeper for the open score in the 76th minute.
The Vulcans stood strong through the final minutes of play to preserve victory No. 7 on the season..

Hawai'i Hilo moved to 2-2-0 in the PacWest (7-3-0 overall) while Jessup moved to a 1-3-1 conference record (1-6-4 overall).
The Vulcans close their homestand hosting Menlo on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
Hawai'i Hilo will then head to Southern California to take on Vanguard (Oct. 19), Azusa Pacific (Oct. 21), Biola (Oct. 24) and Westmont (Oct. 26).
Top four teams in the regular season standings will qualify for the first PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament set for Nov. 14-16 at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.
