LANGLEY, Canada – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Basketball (2-1, 0-0 PacWest) closed out play in the CCA Canadian Tip-Off Classic with a 75-71 defeat to Saint Martin's (3-0, 0-0 GNAC) Sunday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre.
The Saints managed to fend off the Vulcans, taking a three-point advantage into halftime and never surrendering the lead the rest of the way. The score was tied, 47-47, near the nine-minute mark but runs of 7-0 and 8-0 put the Saints ahead by double digits with just over a minute left. Hawai'i Hilo made it tough with a final surge to the finish line pouring in 11 points against five made free throws by SMU, but it wouldn't be enough.
Hawai'i Hilo caps the season-opening CCA Canadian Tip-Off Classic at 2-1, matching the weekend records of No. 5 Dallas Baptist and No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino. Saint Martin's was the only team to go undefeated in Canada.
The two teams will meet again next weekend in Billings, Montana as part of the annual PacWest-GNAC Crossover.
