HILO, Hawai'i – The short-handed Hawai'i Hilo Women's Basketball team took on the tough task of an early-season exhibition tune-up against Division-I Eastern Kentucky, falling, 78-49, Wednesday evening at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
The Vulcans were already handicapped with a max rotation of seven available players when an early-game foul resulted in going with just six the rest of the way.
Hawai'i Hilo shot well in the opening period, going 7 of 15 from the field (.466) but EKU shot even better at .750 with four 3-pointers. While the Colonels cooled off and went just 32.2 percent the rest of the way, the quick pace of play of the Division-I squad helped to further wear down the short-handed Vulcans.
Keirstyn Agonias finished with 16 points (8-11 FG) and 10 rebounds for an unofficial third-career double-double — stats don't count since it was an exhibition for Hawai"i Hilo. Jazmine Soto also totaled 16 points with two of the Vulcans' five 3-pointers.
Hawai'i Hilo stayed at 1-4 overall (0-2 PacWest) while Eastern Kentucky moved to a 7-3 record (0-0 ASUN).
