Kamalu Kamakawiwoole posted a career-high 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals in a 74-71 win over Point Loma on Jan. 6. The fifth-year senior capped her performance with ice in her veins by splashing back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minute of play to seal the victory.

Playing in her hometown of Kaimuki on O'ahu, Kamakawiwoole posted 24 points (7-11 FG) and hit a deep buzzer-beating bucket to help the Vulcans claim victory over Chaminade.

It was a tough month for the Vulcans Men's Basketball team as three of its losses were decided by just one possession, often at the last second as time ran down. On the flip side, Hawai'i Hilo also posted exciting highlight victories.

To open the calendar year against Concordia University Irvine, fifth-year senior transfer Charles Elzie III surpassed 1,000 career points spanning from his first four seasons at The College of Idaho in the NAIA.

Later, in a narrow two-point loss to Azusa Pacific, Elzie posted a career-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting while going 8 for 10 at the free throw line. Against Point Loma, the Washington native splashed a 3-pointer to tie the game with seconds to go only to watch the Sea Lions pull off a half-second buzzer-beating win. He also tied the score on an inside basket against HPU at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime, later giving the Vulcans the lead on a 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining.
