HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Softball was shutout, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action against Chaminade at the Silversword Field at Sand Island Park.
Game 2 of the doubleheader was halted in the bottom of the third inning due to inclement weather. The score was tied, 1-1, but play is unlikely to be continued as it was a non-conference contest.
The Vulcans were coming off Saturday's twinbill sweep of the Silverswords — both of which counted toward Pacific West Conference play. The two teams will meet again next weekend in Hilo for another doubleheader in league play.
GAME 1: HAWAI'I HILO 0 - CHAMINADE 3
- Chaminade managed to score all three of its runs in the early parts of the game, starting the first and second innings with lead-off hits followed by RBI base knocks. The Silverswords added another run in the second aided by a walk and a bases-loaded wild pitch.
- The Vulcans thrice had opportunities to cash in on similar situations with lead-off hits in four innings and successfully moving them over a base three times. However, they just couldn't quite find an extra hit as Hawai'i Hilo left seven total runners stranded.
- Makena Nera recorded one putout and seven assists at third base.
GAME 2: HAWAI'I HILO 1 - CHAMINADE 1 (HALTED IN B3)
- Statistics from this game will not count since the contest did not reach the minimum of five innings.
- Both teams plated a run in the second inning with the Vulcans' score coming on an RBI double by Chenoa Cainglit to left field.
