SURPRISE, Arizona – The top four seeds all advanced on the first day of the 2024 Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Championship Wednesday morning at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Club.

In today's First Round bouts matching the 5-12 seeds, Biola, Academy of Art, Hawai'i Hilo and Dominican all advanced into Thursday's Quarterfinals.

In the longest match of the morning, the Vulcans outlasted the Sunbirds in two hours and 34 minutes.

It all came down to court five, where Hawai'i Hilo's Hana Hofmanova won a morning-to-afternoon match over Daimy Paula, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Earlier, FPU had won the doubles point with Paula and Haile Faherty capturing Court 1 (6-1) with Audrey Ouellet and Malia Mitchell rallying for a 7-5 win over Hilo's Julia Barden and Satoho Toriumi.

Moving to singles, Nayuma Subba won 6-0, 6-1 on Court 1 to make it 2-0 Sunbirds, but Hilo's Toriumi won on Court 4 (6-2, 6-0) to make it 2-1. Barden then tied it on Court 6 (6-2, 6-0) followed by Hikari Osaki's victory on Court 3 (6-1, 6-2). FPU's Yumi Ueoku tied it on Court 2 (6-2, 6-4), leaving the marathon of Paula and Hofmanova.

The Vulcans now advance to play second-seeded Azusa Pacific.
