Big Island Basketball Events Slated for Late October

UH Manoa and Hawai'i Hilo basketball programs will engage in a fun-filled weekend of competition and community outreach, Oct. 25-27.

The University of Hawai'i at Manoa and University of Hawai'i at Hilo basketball programs will engage in a fun-filled weekend of competition and community outreach, Oct. 25-27, on the Big Island.

An exhibition game between the Rainbow Warriors and Vulcans men's teams will tip-off the weekend Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The next day will include a Keiki Clinic at 1 p.m. with both the men's and women's programs participating. The three-day event will then be capped by an exhibition game between the UHM and UHH women on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.

All three events will be held at Hilo's Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. The event is organized by Kawazoe Sports and Entertainment with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Hilo Charities and Motiv8. Sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting Michael Kawazoe at mikezo@gmail.com or Ryan Komagome at ryankomagome@gmail.com.

Tickets range for as little as $5 for students to $150 for VIP sections. Tickets are available online at athleticsadmin.org/HiloMBB and athleticsadmin.org/UHWBB. Signup information for the keiki clinic will be announced at a later date.

This will be the first time since 2011 that the Rainbow Warriors and Vulcans play each other on the Big Island with that last matchup occurring in Kona. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Wahine basketball team makes its first appearance at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium since hosting the 2010 Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout.
