HILO, Hawai'i – Felix Drizinsky headed in a score in the 86th minute but it wouldn't be enough as Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer fell to Vanguard, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
The Lions netted goals in the 31st and 51st minutes, but the Vulcans threatened late with several offensive opportunities before Aidan Santos connected with Felix Drizinsky for the header off the corner kick in the 86th minute.
Hawai'i Hilo totaled 12 shots but did not have another opportunity through the final minutes. Vanguard had seven total shots with five on goal (.714) while racking up 22 fouls.
OTHER NOTES
- Santos moved into a tie at No. 1 in the program record books with his 13th career assist — tied with Drew Geis (2006-2010).
- Hawai'i Hilo still currently stands atop the PacWest Conference standings with 10 points. Vanguard (3-0), Azusa Pacific (3-0), Concordia (3-1) and Fresno Pacific (3-1) each have nine points.
- The Vulcans are the only team to have already played six conference contests. HPU (1-2-2), Chaminade (1-2-2) and Jessup (0-3-2) are one behind with five while the rest of the conference schools have played four or less.

PACWEST PRESEASON POLL
Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 2 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, tying with defending tournament champ Westmont in the second spot. The Vulcans finished the 2024 regular season at No. 5 in the conference standings and was one of four teams to qualify for the inaugural PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament, falling to the Warriors in double overtime of the semifinal round. The 2025 PacWest Championships will be hosted by Westmont on Nov. 13-15 in Santa Barbara.
