ATHERTON, California – Iago Perez Ferreiro and Mirai Sato each netted their second goals of the season to help power Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer past Menlo, 2-1, Friday afternoon in Pacific West Conference action at Wunderlich Field.

After a scoreless first half, Hawai'i Hilo went up 2-0 with goals in the 53rd and 61st minutes — a similar situation to this past Wednesday's match against Dominican which saw the Vulcans go up 2-0 before the Penguins managed to score twice in three minutes for the draw.

Menlo eventually got on the scoreboard in the 89th minute on a score by Sam Archer, but it wouldn't be enough as the Vulcans claimed their first victory of the PacWest Conference season.

OTHER NOTES

• Aidan Santos assisted on the Vulcans' first goal to move to No. 2 in the program record books with 12 career assists — surpassing Tom Vorkastner (2020-2024). Drew Geis (2006-2010) sits atop with just one additional assist.

PACWEST PRESEASON POLL

Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 2 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, tying with defending tournament champ Westmont in the second spot. The Vulcans finished the 2024 regular season at No. 5 in the conference standings and was one of four teams to qualify for the inaugural PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament, falling to the Warriors in double overtime of the semifinal round. The 2025 PacWest Championships will be hosted by Westmont on Nov. 13-15 in Santa Barbara.
