SAN MARCOS, California – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer opened the 2025 season with a compelling 3-0 road victory against Cal State San Marcos Thursday afternoon at The Cage.
The Vulcans maintained control throughout the match and took seven of their nine total corner-kick opportunities through the opening half of action before getting the first score of the season in the 45th minute. Felix Drizinsky launched a long throw-in from the left sideline that ricocheted off a group of CSUSM defenders and past the keeper through the posts. Sophomore Kanilau Tolentino-Perry was the only thing standing between the ball and the goalkeeper and was credited with the touch for his first collegiate score.
Aidan Santos provided an insurance goal from the top of the box in the 56th minute as Iago Perez Ferreiro — a senior transfer and reigning NE-10 Conference Player of the Year — put an emphatic cap on the victory with a left-footed bullet through the back of the net in the closing minutes of the match.
Paul Waschkau recorded five saves for his second shutout with the Vulcans (fifth overall).
