HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Tennis opened the season with a 1-1 island-hop split in a win over Chaminade and a narrow defeat to Dominican on O'ahu.

The Vulcans' originally scheduled season opener last Sunday against Biola was canceled due to inclement weather so Hawai'i Hilo officially got the season started Monday morning with a clean sweep of Chaminade at the Diamond Head Tennis Center.

The Vulcans followed up with a tough defeat to Dominican as all six singles matches went the distance of three full sets.

Hawai'i Hilo took the early lead by winning the doubles competition, but the match ultimately came down to Court 5 between Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas and Dominican's Lorenza Foster-Simbulan with the Penguins managing to get the last edge at a 7-5 score in the deciding set.
