Softball Splits with Jessup

HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Softball split the first of two doubleheaders against Jessup, falling 11-2 before taking a 4-1 win, Friday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Softball Field.

Jessup managed to score five runs in the first two innings and finished with 16 hits in the opener.

In Game 2, the Vulcans were hot early and plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Redshirt-sophomore Janessa Santos once again went the distance in the pitching circle, allowing one unearned run on just five hits with three strikeouts.

NOTES

  • Game 1: Jessup 11 - Hawai'i Hilo 2
    • Both Breli Agbayani-Shibao and Mia Joaquin drove in their first hits of the season, both RBI base hits to bring in the Vulcans two runs of the game.
    • Ke'alohi Markham batted 2 for 2 and scored the Vulcans first run in the bottom of the third.
    • Breeann Leong recorded six assists and two putouts at second base.
    • Harley Acosta totaled two putouts and four assists at third base.
    • Jessup's game total of 16 hits was a season high.
  • Game 2: Hawai'i Hilo 4 - Jessup 1
    • Mariah Antoque drove in the first Vulcans runs on a two-RBI single and finished the game hitting 2 for 3 with a run scored.
    • Ava Monturio (base hit) and Joaquin (triple) followed up with RBI hits to complete the four-run bottom of the first frame.
    • Santos induced 12 fly outs and 4 ground outs, leaving six total runners stranded on the base paths.
    • Joaquin had four putouts and one assist at third base (started the game at second base but moved over in the top of the second).
  • Hawai'i Hilo: 5-6 Overall (2-2 PacWest)
  • Jessup: 5-10 Overall (2-4 PacWest)

PACWEST PRESEASON POLL

Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 6 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vulcans finished the 2025 regular season at No. 6 in the conference standings. The four-team 2026 PacWest Championships postseason tournament will be hosted by Biola on May 5-7 in La Mirada, California.
