Vulcans Once Again Set New Academic Benchmark

HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo student-athletes posted a record-high 3.37 combined grade point average across all 12 sports during the 2025-26 academic year topping last year's mark of a 3.32 GPA.

"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes for setting a new standard of academic excellence this past year," Hawai'i Hilo director of athletics Patrick Guillen said. "This achievement is a testament to their relentless work ethic, discipline and dedication. They prove every single day that championship performance happens both in competition and in the classroom. This milestone belongs to them, as well as the coaches, advisors, professors and staff who support their journey every step of the way."

Hawai'i Hilo Women's Golf (individual sport) and Women's Soccer (team sport) were recognized as the department's Ramon Goya Academic Teams of the Year for highest team GPAs.

Across the Pacific West Conference, the Vulcans had top-performing programs with Women's Cross Country (3.64), Softball (3.50) and Men's Golf (3.46) — each of which finished in the top three against teams from the other respective PacWest schools.

Academics

Overall, Point Loma was named winner of the PacWest Conference Academic Achievement Award after managing to post a 3.59 overall GPA for its fourth consecutive win.

Earlier this week, a record 2,700 student-athletes across all PacWest Conference members were named to the Academic All-PacWest Team for achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. The Vulcans had 172 honorees on the list.
