IRVINE, California – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer opened Pacific West Conference play with a 2-1 victory at Concordia on Saturday evening at the Golden Eagles Field.
Juniors Kanilau Tolentino-Perry and Teun van Gansewinkel each netted their first goals of the season. Tolentino-Perry made a diving effort on a long-range pass from Diego Ruiz and headed in the first score of the game in the 27th minute. van Gansewinkel added on for what would be the game-winner with a score in the 50th minute to capitalize on a defensive miscue by CUI.
The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 79th minute with a credited goal to Dylan Graham after capping an odd sequence with the Vulcans defense disengaged from the action.
CUI managed to rack up 21 total shots (10 on-goal) and had a handful of attempts clank off the crossbar. Vulcans goalkeeper Tim Teicher tallied up nine saves with two of them coming through the final 12 minutes of action to preserve the victory.
Saturday's victory made it three in a row for the Vulcans through the last most recent meetings against the Golden Eagles. According to the records, the series between the two teams is now even at 5-5.

Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 3 in the PacWest Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vulcans went 12-6-2 overall last fall with a runner-up finish at the PacWest Championships and its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance and victory in the NCAA Super 4 Region First Round. The 2026 PacWest Championships will be hosted by Dominican on Nov. 5-7 in San Rafael, California.
