The University of Hawaii at Hilo finished in 14th place at the John Burns Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Hawaii on the Arnold Palmer/George Fazio Courses in Laie, Hawaii.
California won the team title with an 834 followed by Texas A&M (840), Virginia (846), New Mexico (852), Nevada (854), SMU (857), Fresno State (860), Arizona (867), Hawaii “A” (870), Denver (879), Brigham Young (863), Texas El Paso (891), BYU-Hawaii (893), Hawaii Hilo (895), Hawaii Pacific (896), Utah (910) and Hawaii “B” (928).
Travis Russell was the top Vulcan finisher with a one-under-par 215 (77-68-70) and was tied for 22nd place. Others on the squad were Blake Snyder (T52, 80-74-69=223), Neil Cabico (T72, 82-74-73=229), Chris Shimomura (T79, 79-74-78=231) and Nick Matsushima (88TH, 85-79-75=239).
Virginia's Ben Kohles won a three-way playoff for medalist honors between Cal's Max Homa and Texas A&M's John Hurley. Kohles made a six-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole. He finished as 10-under-par 206 (71-68-67).
Also playing for the Vulcans as individuals were Corey Kozuma (T75,83-74-72=23-), Christian Agosto (T75,81-76-73=230), Bronzen Winters (91st, 88-78-79=245) and Christopher Armanini (93rd, 85-86-81=252).
