Lack of fire leads to a quiet senior night

The University of Hawaii at Hilo fell to Chaminade University, 72-103, in a Pacific West Conference at the UHH gymnasium.

“It's always tough and emotional on senior night,” said UHH Head Coach Jeff Law. “The seniors had a chance but there's lot of things going through the guys' mind. We didn't really do anything. Once we got hit, we didn't do anything to punch back.”

“We started the game off pretty good but we couldn't get a shot to fall here, a free throw to shoot there. We got killed on the boards. It's not good enough, it's not hard enough. It's not going to get it done.”

The Vulcans shot overall 29-69 (42%) from the field, 3-21 (14%) from the 3-point arc, and 11-19 (58%) from the free throw line compared to the Silverswords 38-67 (57%) from the filed, 12-26 (46%) from the arc, and 15-19 (79%) from the free throw line.

“I knew if we didn't pick up our intensity and match their intensity it's going to end up like it was tonight,” said Law.

After the game, six seniors were honored:  CJ Brown, Mychael Hearn, Kiel Myers, Michael Melonas, Paul Batausa and Daniel Perry. They put on a display of dunks, trick shots, and a sweet shot by Daniel Perry's mom. The crowd cheered and celebrated with them.

Melonas led the Vulcans with 17 points, and 12 rebounds. Hearn and Brown also added 17 points each.
