LA HABRA, Calif. – Straight sets were the order of the day for the University of Hawaii at Hilo women's tennis team as they beat Hope International University 8-1 at the La Habra Tennis Center.
 
The Vulcans (5-8) swept through the doubles competition with Trixie Croad and Chelsea Sato winning 8-0 in first doubles; Kinsey Volkart and Shanise Kaaikala winning 8-4 in second doubles; and Bianca Novotna and Megan Fujitake winning 8-2 in third doubles.
 
Croad made quick work of Sabrina Miller in first singles winning 6-0 and 6-1. HIU's Jessica Cornea prevented the shutout with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Novotna in second doubles. The Vulcans took the remaining matches with Volkart winning 6-0, 6-1 in third singles; Sato 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles; Anne Carsey 6-1, 6-2 in fifth singles and Kaaikala 6-0, 6-4 in sixth singles.
 
The Vulcans head to Lakewood, Calif. tomorrow for a 10 a.m. match with the University of the Southwest.
