OAKLAND, Calif.--Hawai`i Hilo won two of the three doubles matches and also captured the top three singles contests to post a 5-4 win over Holy Names on Monday at the Meyer Tennis Court at Mills College.
It was a revenge of sorts for the Vulcans, who lost earlier this year to the Hawks, 5-4 in Honolulu. With the win, UHH improved to 4-11 on the season, while Holy Names fell to 5-10.Â
Daniela Sanz Caseli,
Sara Valero and
Kinsey Volkart were all two-time winners on the day. Sanz Caseli rolled to a victory on singles court one, 6-2, 6-3, and teamed with Valero for a 8-1 win at first doubles. Valero won on court two in singles over Dominique Ernst, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0. Volkart won at third doubles with partner
Shanise Kaaikala, 8-4, and then claimed victory in the tightest singles match of the day on court three, topping Taylor Barajas, 6-4, 7-5.
The win snapped a five-match losing streak for UHH. They will continue a long road trip in northern and southern California with a match-up against Stanislaus State on Tuesday in Turlock. Start time is 11 a.m. PDT.Â
