HONOLULU, Hawai`i--Daniela Sanz Caseli triumphed at No. 1 singles but that would be the only victory of the day for the UH Hilo women's tennis team during a 8-1 loss to Dominican at Ala Moana Regional Park in Honolulu.

The Penguins improved to 4-4 on the season, while the Vulcans dropped to 1-5. UH Hilo is on Oahu for seven matches in the next eight days.

Caseli Sanz, a junior transfer, improved to 2-4 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Skyler Schaar, a Division I transfer from Hartford. Sanz Caseli also dropped a 9-7 heartbreaker at No. 1 doubles with Sara Valero to Schaar and Brooke Briseno.

Valero lost a three-set battle at No. 2 singles to Rickimae Torres, 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. The other tightly contested match on the day also went to the Penguins at No. 3 doubles when Caralyn Fitzpatrick and Napapon Vorasane lost to Dominican's Cori Beeby and Solveig Karlsen, 8-6.

The rest of the Dominican wins were in straight sets.

The Vulcans will return to action tomorrow morning (Thursday), taking on Chaminade.
