SAN DIEGO, Calif.--Kinsey Volkart, Daniela Sanz Caseli and Sara Valero were all double winners for Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday against Arizona Christian, and all of those wins were greatly needed during a 5-4 win over the Firestorm at the Barnes Center in San Diego.

UH Hilo improved to 5-16 on the year with the victory, while Arizona Christian fell to 13-7. The Firestorm are an NAIA school based in Phoenix and are members of the Golden State Athletic Conference. They are ranked No. 15 natonally.

It was the top of the ladder that helped make the difference for the Vulcans, with Sanz Caseli, Valero and Volkart winning at the top three singles spots, while Sanz Caseli and Valero also picked up victory at No. 1 doubles. Volkart teamed with Shanise Kaaikala for a victory at No. 3 doubles.

Sanz Caseli defeated Mikayla Morgan 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Valero edged Tia Okano 7-5, 6-4 on court two. Volkart had to go extra time to defeat Autria Compton, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 3. UHH then lost close matches on court four when Cheyenne Schula fell to Melanie Dreux (6-2, 7-5) and Napapon Vorasane went three sets before coming up just short against Jayci Kelley on court six, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Valero and Sanz Caseli squared off against Morgan and Okano in a terrific doubles match, with the Vulcan pair prevailing 9-7.

UH Hilo will wrap up a nearly two-week road trip with a match on Thursday against San Diego Christian.
