UH Hilo golf star
Jared Kinoshita and soccer standout
Bailey Cahill are the Pepsi Athletes of the Week for the first week of November.
Senior golfer
Jared Kinoshita had a record-setting week in helping the Vulcans to the team title at the 12th Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at Waikoloa Kings' Course. Kinoshita shot an opening round 65 to tie the UH Hilo school record for lowest 18-hole score, and then earned medalist honors for the entire tournament with a three-round school record tally of 11-under-par. It was the second career tournament win for the Bakersfield, Calif. native, and the first team trophy earned by UH Hilo since 2014.
Junior goalkeeper
Bailey Cahill finished a strong first season for UH Hilo, helping the Vulcans to three straight road wins to wrap up the regular season. The Vulcans outscored their opponents 8-1 on the trip, with Cahill pitching her sixth and seven shutouts of the year behind a strong Vulcan defense. The Santa Rose native had 11 saves on the week, finishing with 50 on the season. Her 0.60 Goals Against Average was just 0.01 off the school record of 0.59 set by Randi Walters in 2008.
