LAS VEGAS, Nev.—The Hawai`i Hilo women's tennis team prevailed in three tightly contested contests to pave the way for a 9-0 victory over Western New Mexico on Monday morning at the Darling Tennis Center.
Danielle Sanz and Devanshi Bhimjivani both won tough battles on courts one and two, and together they won at first doubles.
Bhimjivani played at No. 1 singles for the first time this year and topped Klara Smolikova, 6-4, 6-4, while Sanz played No. 2 and rallied back for a 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 win over Nadia Justiniano.
Together they edged Smolikova and Jeanne Kolb in doubles, 8-6.
Bhimjiyani improved to 4-1 on the season in singles play, while freshman
Carmelle Joyner moved to 5-1 on court five with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Christine Roerick.
The Vulcans continue a three-week road trip with a match against No. 8 nationally ranked University of Indianapolis on Tuesday. Start time is 2 p.m. Pacific.
