TURLOCK, Calif.—Prevailing in all four of the tight matches played on Monday afternoon, the Hawai`i Hilo women's tennis team defeated Stanislaus State 7-2 at the Stan State Tennis Courts.
The Vulcans improved to 6-5 on the season with the win, while the Warriors dropped to 1-9.
UH Hilo won nail-biters at No. 4 singles, No. 5 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles to secure the team victory.
Marina Colvee outlasted Miliana Proft on court four, 7-5, 6-4, and
Carmelle Joyner improved to 8-2 on the season in singles with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory over Taylor Galya on court five.
Daniela Sanz and
Devanshi Bhimjiyani won a tie-breaker at first doubles over Cassidy Ferrell and Kayla Nguyen, 8-7 (9-7), and
Irena Le and
Sara Marin edged Ebone Qualls and Proft, 8-6.
Bhimjiyani fell at No. 1 singles to Ferrell, who is 13-6 on the season (6-2, 6-2). Sanz cruised to victory at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-2), as did Marin at No. 3 (6-3, 6-0). Colvee and Joyner also rolled at No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Next up for the Vulcans is a Tuesday match-up with San Diego Christian, to be played at UC San Diego at 3 pm Pacific.
