Perhaps there is more to life than just golf, but the University of Hawai`i Hilo men's golf team managed to squeeze in a round during their Spring Break trip to Japan.
In the midst of sight seeing, banquets, cultural exchange and Japanese hospitality, the Vulcans played a "friendly" on Tuesday with Osaka Gakuin University in Osaka. All players on both teams played, with the top seven scores counting in the exhibition match.
The Vulcans won the contest against the Phoenix, 557-568.
Jared Kinoshita shot a 73, as did OGU's Yutaro Masuda. UH Hilo's next lowest scorers were
Evan Merrier (77) and
Taylor Patrick (78).
"It was a fantastic experience for our student-athletes," said Vulcan assistant coach
Ron Takahashi. "They were able to see what life is like in Japan, and we were able to further foster our relationship with Osaka Gakuin."
OGU has played the past few years in UH Hilo's Amer Ari Intercollegiate in Waikoloa.
Next up for the Vulcans are the Pacific West Conference Championships, April 23-25 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
