FULLERTON, Calif.--Fresno Pacific won the team title and Hasna Kaarour of Academy of Art was the individual champion at the 2019 Pacific West Conference Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Ted Craig Regional Park.
Hawai`i Hilo was tenth of 12 teams, with
Olivia Jarvis leading the way. The Vulcan sophomore was 63rd overall with a time of 24:35 on the six kilometer course.
Caitlin Kawaiaea was the second UHH runner to cross the finish line (25:08), followed by
Emma Heidelmeier (25:40),
Makena Morris (26:04),
Sabina Boo-Rivera (26:57) and
Lily Gavagan (27:01).
The Vulcans, an all freshman and sophomore team, finished ninth at last year's championships.Â
The Sunbirds won their first PacWest cross country title by placing five runners in the top 20 (4-7-14-18-19) for a total of 62 points. Academy of Art and host Biola were next with 85 points. Fourth place went to Concordia (106), followed by Notre Dame de Namur (123), Azusa Pacific 129), defending champ Point Loma (142), Hawaii Pacific (181), Chaminade (297), UHH (306), Dominican (320), and Holy Names (329).
Kaarour was the runaway winner for the individual title, clocking 21:22 on the 6K course. Zita Molnar of Point Loma was second (21:36) and Biola's Mackenna Mason was third (21:47).Â
In the men's race, Biola was the team title winner, with three runners in the top four slots. Academy of Art finished second and Notre Dame de Namur was third.
The Vulcans season continues at the NCAA Division II Regional Championships (open to all teams) on November 9, on the campus of Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon.Â
