PORTLAND, Ore.--Senior
Warren Miller led the Hawai`i HIlo Vulcans with a two-over par 73 on the final day of the Concordia Invitational, hosted at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland.
Miller's overall three-round tally of +7 (73-74-73) was also the top Vulcan score in the tournament, tying him for 26th place overall.
Otherwise, it was a tournament to forget for the Vulcans. They lost a great round turned in by sophomore
Andrew Otani on Monday (69) because of a scorecard malfunction. That turned out to be a 12-stroke swing in UH Hilo's team score. Today, all UHH scores were in the high 70's or 80 on a tough course.
The Vulcans (+58) finished 11th of 14 teams, with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs slipping through in the final round to tie Simon Fraser for the team title (+6), but the Clan got the trophy by winning the tiebreaker. Western Washington (+9) was third.
Julius Kreutzer of Academy of Art is the medalist at -5 (66-70-72), holding off Maxwell Turnquist of St. Martin's by two strokes (69-72-69). There was a tie for third between Tanner Comes of Colorado-Colorado Springs and Simon Fraser's Aidan Goodfellow, who both finished at -2.
The Vulcans will return home and prepare for their own Dennis Rose Intercollegiate, to be hosted at the Waikoloa Kings' Course, Oct. 28-30.
