KAILUA-KONA, Hawai`i—Hawai`i Hilo pocketed their first win of the season and of new coach
Kallen Mizuguchi's career with a 7-0 victory over the Chaminade women on Saturday afternoon at the Holua Tennis Center.
Mizuguchi, the former Vulcan player (2012-15), actually coached the Vulcan women to an exhibition match win over Linfield last month, and oversaw UH Hilo's men's victory this morning over Holy Names (6-1).
Still, two wins in one day (men and women) is for sure a first in the young coach's career.
"It's nice to get the wins, but credit goes to the girls and guys," he said. "We have a lot more tennis to play this weekend so we need to get ice and rest and be ready to go again tomorrow."
On a warm day in Kona, the Vulcans made pretty quick work of the Silverswords. All the singles matches were decided in straight sets and the doubles wins (worth one team point) were all won without a service break.
UH Hilo and Chaminade will play again on Sunday morning (8 a.m.) and the Vulcans will then take on No. 4 ranked Hawai`i Pacific on Monday at 10 a.m.
