Hilo Headlines: The Vulcans return home for their final two games of the season, hosting Notre Dame de Namur (Tuesday) and Chaminade (Saturday). UH Hilo's post-season hopes are gone, but they have an opportunity to climb a couple of spots in the standings with wins against the teams that are on both side of them in the PacWest.

Senior Salute: After Saturday's game, the Vulcans will honor three seniors for their contributions to the UH Hilo program. Four-year letterwinner Patience Taylor, three-year local product Amber Vaughn and transfer Alyssa Movchan will be honored in the traditional post-game Hawaiian fashion with family, friends and teammates in attendance.

Free, Free, Free!!: From here on and forever more, all UH Hilo and Hawaii Community College students will receive free admission to all Vulcan home events. Just show your student ID, and you are in!! Same is true for faculty and staff.

Watch, Listen: All Vulcan home women's basketball games are available via video stream (and Live Stats). Improved coverage, which includes audio play-by-play, through Out of the Sea Media on the Vulcan website.

Long Bombing: After a slow start from long range to start the season, the Vulcans have been making money from behind the three-point line during the final stretch of the season. Twice in the last seven games, UH Hilo has reached double figures in treys made, making a season-high of 11 against Biola and Point Loma. They have averaged over eight made three-pointers a game in their last seven contests.

Built to Beat Biola: For the second time this year, the Vulcans beat Biola, this time in La Mirada. After upsetting the Eagles earlier this year in Hilo (77-65), the Vulcans made it a season sweep with a 56-48 win on the road. Biola is 8-12 in PacWest play this year. The Vulcans also swept Multnomah earlier this year, and a win over Notre Dame de Namur on Tuesday would give them a third season sweep.

Navarette's Record Breaking Numbers: Sophomore post Allie Navarette has already broken a few UH Hilo single-season records this year, some of them her own. With two games remaining here are the records she has already broken.

Around the Loop: Azusa Pacific has clinched at least a tie for conference title with a 19-1 record with two games remaining. Dominican is the only team with a chance for that tie (17-3) and defending champ Hawai`i is next at 17-4. Those three have qualified for the six spots in the PacWest tournament, as has Point Loma (16-5) who has won 11 straight, and Fresno Pacific (14-7). Concordia is in sixth place is the likely final team at 9-12.

Regional Rankings: The first official NCAA Division II West Region rankings came out on Feb. 20. The final eight in this list will qualify for the NCAA post-season, as will the conference champions of the PacWest, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The next ranking will come out on Feb. 27. (1) UC San Diego 22-0, (2) Northwest Nazarene 21-1, (3) Alaska Anchorage 23-1, (4) Azusa Pacific 20-4, (5) Cal Poly Pomona 20-4, (6) Simon Fraser 16-7, (7) Humboldt State 15-6, (8) Dominican 19-4, (9) Cal State San Marcos 13-9, (10) Hawai`i Pacific 17-7.

Argo Article: The Argonauts come to Hilo red-hot, having won their last three games against Concordia, Holy Names and Academy of Art. NDNU has been tough on defense all season long, allowing just over 60 points a game, the second best total in the PacWest. UH Hilo won a tight 49-47 verdict last month in Belmont, California, and the Vulcans lead the all-time series between the two teams, 14-8.

Chaminade Clippings: Chaminade will play Notre Dame de Namur before arriving in Hilo on Saturday night. Prior to the NDNU game, they upset Concordia (68-63) to pick up their first southern California win. The Silverswords have one of the best players in the conference in Destiny Castro, who averages 19.8 points a game (second in the PWC) and is seventh in assists (3.4). The Silverswords defeated the Vulcans back in December (65-58), but UH Hilo leads the all-time series between the two, 22-8.

A Look Back: The Vulcans suffered through an injury-plagued year to finish 7-16 overall and 5-15 in the Pacific West Conference in 2017-18.

PacWest Prognosticators: The PacWest coaches predicted Azusa Pacific to win the conference this year, with defending champ Hawai`i Pacific slated to take second. The Vulcans clock in at ninth.

Head Coach David Kaneshiro: Vulcan head coach David Kaneshiro enters into his ninth season as the leader of the UHH program in 2018-19. Prior to his arrival at Hilo, he was the head coach for three seasons Blackburn College (Ill.), where he twice won conference championships and in 2006 was named the St. Louis Athletic Conference co-coach of the year. He also spent two seasons as the head coach at Webster University (Mo.). He served one season as the lead assistant at Stanislaus State.
