SAN ANTONIO, Tex.—Having a month off before you play the No. 1 team in the country is certainly not ideal.

It showed on Monday morning as Barry (Fla.), the top ranked team in NCAA Division II, rolled past No. 7 Hawai`i Hilo, 6-1, at the North Side tennis courts in San Antonio. The match, delayed by four hours because of rain, was the first for the Vulcans since February 16.

UH Hilo, who will now play four matches in the next four days, is 2-1 on the season while Barry improves to 6-1.

Alessandro Giuliato picked the lone UHH win on the day on court two, taking down Carlos Gomez, 6-3, 6-2. Gomez was ranked No. 6 in the ITA national ranking last Fall.

The rest of the Vulcans lost in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, UHH's Vaclav Slezak fell to No. 2 nationally ranked Pierre Montreiul, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, Chun En Wu dropped a tight match to Barry's Vivien Versier, ranked No. 44, 6-4, 6-4.

UH Hilo lost two doubles matches (worth one team point) to the Bucceneers, who have four players ranked in the NCAA top 50. 

The Vulcans will get right back to the courts on Tuesday morning (9:30 am Central) against No. 10 ranked Southwest Baptist.
