FRESNO, Calif.--UH Hilo's Carmelle Joyner picked up a straight sets win for the Vulcans at No. 4 singles, but host Fresno Pacific swept doubles and picked up wins on three singles courts to earn the women's tennis victory on Saturday afternoon at the Haak Tennis Complex, 4-1.

Joyner improved to 5-2 on the season in singles, rolling to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gaya Solomon. The sophomore left-hander was the first one off the singles courts, at the time tying the match up at 1-1.

But the Sunbirds quickly captured victories on courts six, five and two to clinch the match. Two matches remained unfinished, as UHH's No. 1 Marina Colvee was locked up in a battle with Marina Lex (7-5, 1-0, UNF), same for Sandra Dafincescu (UHH) and Imane Van Veen (FPU) on court three (4-6, 6-2, 2-0, UNF).

FPU, a first-year program, swept the doubles, with the closest match coming on the third court. There, UHH's Hina Nishida and Dafincescu dropped a tight 6-4 set to Alice Di Matteo and Sanne Brull.

The Sunbirds are now 7-1 on the season, while the Vulcan fall to 3-6. UH Hilo will get Sunday off before taking on Biola on Monday. Start time between the Eagles and Vulcans is set for 2 p.m.
