LA MIRADA, Calif.--Trailing 3-1, host Biola rallied back to take the final three singles matches of the day to claim a 4-3 win over visiting Hawai`i Hilo in women's tennis action on Monday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.

Biola improved to 6-7 with the win, while the Vulcans fell to 3-7. UH Hilo continues the southern Californian portion of their road trip with a Tuesday match at Concordia in Irvine (10 am Pacific).

The Eagles began the day leading on the scoreboard after winning two of the three doubles matches. All three doubles matches were decisive, with the Vulcans winning at No. 2 behind Marina Colvee and Irena Le (6-0). Biola won on courts one and three by 6-2 scores.

Trailing 1-0 in the team score, the Vulcans began battling back. Gabriela Aguilar Lawlor was the first victor on court six (6-0, 6-3), and Colvee followed on court one over Esther Lee, 6-0, 6-2.  Carmelle Joyner gave the Vulcans a 3-1 lead by winning on court four in straight sets over Madison Swaney, 6-3. 6-2. 

But Biola mounted a furious comeback from there. Needing to win all three singles matches, they started with a point at No. 2 singles when Ines Diaz won a tight battle with Anouk Van Hoek, 6-2, 7-5. With the team score at 3-2, the final two matches of the day were marathons. Lauren Lee eventually won out over Hina Nishida on court five, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, leaving the final match for all the marbles on court three. In a match-up between a power hitter (UHH's Sandra Dafincescu) and a backboard-lob artist (Biola's Lily Waterhouse), Waterhouse prevailed 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2). Waterhouse, a lefty, trailed 5-3 in the third set before rallying back.

Colvee was UH Hilo's only double winner on the day, improving to 5-4 in singles on the season and to 6-3 in doubles. Joyner moved to 6-2 with her singles victory.
