HONOLULU, Hawai`i—The UH Hilo women's tennis team won a couple of tight matches at the top of the ladder and went on to take a 7-0 verdict from host Chaminade on Friday afternoon at the Ala Moana Tennis Courts.
The win likely clinches a Pacific West Conference tournament berth for the Vulcans, as they improved to 4-9 on the year. The Silverswords are now 3-9.
Marina Colvee won a battle on court one with Catrina Liner after dropping the first set, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-3.
Sandra Dafincescu outlasted Salamasina Te`i on court two, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7). Those were the last two matches off the court, as the rest of the day went in quick straight set wins.
On Saturday, the Vulcans will take on No. 10 nationally ranked Hawai`i Pacific. Start time at the Ala Moana Tennis Courts is 9 a.m.
