WAIKOLOA, Hawai`i—UH Hilo wrapped up four grueling days of tennis with their fifth match, falling short against Dallas Baptist in a women's tennis encounter on Monday morning at the Fairmont Orchid, 5-2.
 
The Vulcans got wins in singles on courts two (Sandra Dafincescu) and four (Carmelle Joyner) against a very good Patriots team that improved to 10-2 on the year with the victory. The Vulcans will return to Hilo to rest up with a 1-4 record.
 
Dallas Baptist won the doubles point, which include one of the most entertaining wins of the day on court three. The Patriots' Leslie Omeire and Devon Austin-Canning locked up with UHH's Gabriela Aguilar Lawlor and Dafincescu for a battle that finally went DBU's way, 7-6 (10-8).
 
Dafincescu was also impressive on court two with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Taylor Leslie. Joyner and Genie Hernandez were the last two off the court with Joyner claiming a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win.
 
Next matches for the Vulcans won't be until March 9-12, when they will play four matches in Honolulu.
