HONOLULU, Hawai`i—Four Hawai`i Hilo players earned double wins as the Vulcan women won a key tennis match versus a Pacific West Conference opponent on Wednesday morning at the Don Andrew Diamond Head Tennis Center.

The Vulcans defeated Dominican, 5-2, to improve to 3-5 on the season. The Penguins, who already have victories over PacWest opponents Stanislaus State and Holy Names this year, fell to 5-4. These two teams will off square again next week (March 17) in San Rafael at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center (10 am PT).

Sandra Dafincescu, Anouk Van Hoek, Carmelle Joyner and Gabriela Aguilar Lawlor were all winners in both singles and doubles. Van Hoek and Joyner combined to give UHH the first win of the day on court one in doubles (6-0), and Dafincescu and Aguilar Lawlor did the same on court three (6-1).

Dafincescu was the first player off the courts in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court two, improving to 5-2 on the season in singles.

Van Hoek advanced on court three (6-2, 6-4). Joyner and Aguilar Lawlor had bigger fights on their hands, with Joyner eventually prevailing in three sets over Kamar Alajeely (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) and Aguilar Lawlor fighting off Haley Garcia in two sets, 7-6, (7-2), 6-2. Aguilar Lawlor is now 5-1 in singles this season on courts 4-6.

UH Hilo will wrap up their Oahu trip on Thursday with a 12:30 pm match against Chaminade at the Diamond Head Tennis Center.
