Vulcans Rank 6th in Region Poll

It's a small sample size and very early in the campaign, but the Vulcans have good news to hang their hat on coming out of their first weekend of victories against Hawai`i Pacific.

The Vulcans are tied for sixth in the 2020-21 DII West Region Basketball Media Poll for the week of Jan. 18-24. UH Hilo opened its season and the Kaniela Aiona era with a pair of Pacific West Conference wins over the Sharks at Vulcan Gymnasium, 79-71 and 82-77.

The last time that the Vulcans began the PacWest play at 2-0 was in 2017-18 when they opened up conference action with home wins over Biola and Concordia.

But you have to go all the way back to 2004-05 to find the last time that a Vulcan team won its first two games of the season. That Jeff Law-coached team opened the year 4-0 and would ultimately finish 25-4 with a loss in the NCAA West Region semifinals.

The D2SIDA rankings include only teams that are playing during this pandemic season.

T1) Azusa Pacific (0-0)
T1) Point Loma (1-0)
3) Northwest Nazarene (3-1)
4) Chaminade (0-0)
5) Seattle Pacific (0-2)
T6) Concordia (0-1)
T6) Hawai`i Hilo (2-0)
