WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – Visitors Cal State San Bernardino and Western New Mexico share the first round lead and can also boast of the top two golfers after 18 holes at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Monday at the Waikoloa Beach Course.
The 'Yotes and Mustangs share the team lead after shooting even round team scores of 280 on the Par 70 course, two shots ahead of third-place Colorado Christian (+2). The host Vulcans have two more rounds to overcome a slow start, sitting in ninth place of 12 teams after turning in a score of 302 (+22).
Keith Ng leads UHH, tied for 14th after shooting a +1 tally of 71. Ng is just five shots back of leader Brian Nielsen of Cal State San Bernardino, who turned in a 66 and led basically from wire to wire. Western New Mexico's Joey Geary is next at 67 (-3), followed by Seung Ho Yoon (Cal State Dominguez Hills) at 68.
Dustin Franko is next in line for the Vulcans (76), followed by Andrew Otani (77), Nicholas Gomez (78) and Noah Lau (79). Playing as individuals, Junghwan Lee shot a 76 and Ethan Hironaga checked in with an 80.
The tournament continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with 18 holes each day. The first tee times are scheduled for 7:30 am.
