RIVERSIDE, California – The three-time reigning Pacific West Conference Champion Hawai'i Hilo Men's Golf team is headed to the NCAA South Central/West Regional set for this weekend at the Victoria Club.
The regional competition fields 20 total teams — 10 from the South Central Region (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Lone Star Conference) and 10 from the West Region (PacWest Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association and Great Northwest Athletic Conference) — and eight total individual golfers. Hawai'i Hilo is the only team representing the PacWest Conference.
Competition begins Thursday morning with one round per day through Saturday's final round of action.
In the lineup for the Vulcans will be: Dylan Bercan, Katsuhiro Yamashita, Jacob Torres, Ben Crinella and Dysen Park. Bercan captured the individual PacWest title with a seven-under score last month.
The top three teams and the top two student-athletes (not with a team) from each regional will advance to the NCAA National Championships set for May 19-23 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven.
