Three more matches are on tap for the UH Hilo women's tennis team this coming weekend on Oahu.
For the Vulcans, who are 4-3 on the season, it represents another tune-up opportunity prior to the Pacific West Conference Championships April 21-24 in Surprise, Arizona. Matches for UHH during this pandemic season have come in waves---four over Valentine's weekend in Waikola (Feb. 13-15), three in northern California in mid-March and now three in three days on Oahu (April 2-4).
On Friday, the Vulcans will face off with Division I Portland State. The Vikings are 6-8 on the year, which includes a 4-5 record against Division I opponents and a 2-3 mark versus Division II and III. They have been on a massively long road trip which began in southern California on March 23 with a 4-1 loss to UC San Diego. They also fell to Concordia-Irvine (5-1) and Point Loma (4-0), and then came to Hawaii and lost to Hawaii Pacific (4-2) and defeated Chaminade (6-1). They will play the University of Hawaii on Thursday before taking on the Vulcans.
On Saturday for UH HIlo it is a rematch with Chaminade (0-3), whom the Vulcans have defeated twice and another with HPU (2-1) on Sunday. The Vulcans and Sharks split matches back in February.
Two of UHH's three losses have come against nationally ranked teams, No. 5 HPU and No. 18 Fresno Pacific.
Carmelle Joyner has the Vulcans' best single record at 4-1 (court four) while
Hikari Osaki and
Sandra Dafincescu sport the best doubles mark at 4-3, playing a combination of No. 2 and 3 doubles.
