Hawai`i HIlo Vulcan guard
Darren Williams (Rancho Cucamonga, California/Rancho Cucamonga HS) wrapped up his first season in a Vulcan uniform with perfection at the free throw line and 42 points against Chaminade, earning the Pacific West Conference Hawai`i Pod Player of the Week.
Williams led the Vulcans on back-to-back days with 21 points each as the Vulcans wrapped the regular season on Oahu. The 5-foot-8 junior guard missed only three shots on Friday to help the Vulcans cruise past host Chaminade, 78-62. He was 7-for-10 from the field and was a season-best 5-of-8 from three-point range. On Saturday, he put up 21 points again, this time making hay at the free throw line on 8-of-8 shooting.
For the weekend, he was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe and was 8-of-17 from behind the arch. His 21 points was just two points shy of his season best. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native averaged 14.4 points a game this season, led the squad with 26 three-pointers made in 12 games and also led the Vulcans in assists (37), free throw percentage (.830) and steals (25).
Williams helped lead his Vulcan squad to a 10-2 record and the Hawai`i Pod title.
