HONOLULU, Oahu--UH Hilo used strong net play and served well to roll to their sixth consecutive victory with a 3-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Saturday afternoon at McCabe Gymnasium.
The Vulcans improved to 8-1 in the spring season while the Sharks fell to 2-8 at the PacWest #3 Spring tournament. UHH will take on host Chaminade tonight at 7 pm.
UH HIlo had 11 blocks and seven service aces on the day. 12 players entered the stat book as the Vulcans won 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.Â
Bria Beale had 11 kills and 11 digs, while
Ashton Jessee added eight kills with a .571 attack percentage. Jessee also had six of UHH's 11 blocks.
Alexandria Parisian had six kills and four blocks,
Kendall Kott had 30 assists and
Tani Hoke had an impressive 20 digs and three service aces.
In each of the three sets, the Vulcans spotted the Sharks an early lead. In the first set, it was a 5-3 margin that was erased with a 4-0 run and UHH wouldn't trail in the set again. In the second set, UHH took a narrow 15-13 lead and blew it out to 22-14 with a 7-1 run. In the third, the Sharks led 8-7 before a 10-2 Vulcan blitz finished off HPU.
Emily Joseph led the Sharks with eight kills and Makayla Warthan had 12 digs for HPU.
