HILO, Hawai'i– The men's basketball team had two solid conference wins this past week against Holy Names (Thursday, Jan. 6) and Biola (Monday, Jan. 10).
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones (Wellington, New Zealand/) and
Kameron Ng (Kaneohe, Hawai`i / St. Francis / Univ. of Hawai`i) both had standout performances in these two victories that contributed to their team's success.
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones (Wellington, New Zealand/)
Tait-Jones racked up big numbers on the stat sheet this week. He had a double-double in both games totaling 39 points, 26 rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks. He was also excellent at the free throw line going 12-for-15.
Tait-Jones was the Vulcans lead scorer against the Hawks. He posted 22 points, going 7-for-13 in the field. He had many free throw opportunities and was sure to make them count going 8-for-10 at the charity stripe.
Tait-Jones secured his second double-double of the season against the Hawks, snatching 13 rebounds. Tait-Jones's third double-double of the season came against Biola on Monday. He scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Vulcans 97-89 win.
Kameron Ng (Kaneohe, Hawai`i / St. Francis / Univ. of Hawai`i)
Ng contributed 12 points in both victories. Against HNU, Ng was 4-for-9 in the field, 1-for-2 behind the arc, and three-for-four at the free throw line. Ng was able to get himself in the right spot at the right time, collecting his season's best of five rebounds against the Hawks. He also picked up two steals against HNU.
Ng played in 16 minutes against the Eagles and was sure to make them count. He shot 50 percent in the field (4-8), was 2-for-5 behind the arc, and 2-for-2 at the free throw line. Ng also dished out one assist and caught one rebound against Biola.
