HILO, Hawai'i– The UH Hilo men's basketball team takes on Dominican tomorrow, Jan. 16 at 7:30 pm HST in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
First in Pacific West Conference
The Vulcans (9-4, 5-1 PacWest) are currently first place in the PacWest Conference standings after their 75-72 win over Academy of Art. The Red and Black are on a five-game winning streak, looking to pick up their sixth win tomorrow against the Penguins.
Offense Versus Defense
UHH's offense dominates the PacWest averaging 81.1 points a game, while the Penguins have the leading defense in the conference averaging 65.7 points a game.
The Vulcans lead scorers Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones and Donald McHenry are both in the top ten for scoring in the conference. Tait-Jones is the fourth highest scorer in the league with 229 points and McHenry in sixth with 219 points.
Vulcan PacWest Stat Leaders
The Vulcans have three players leading in the PacWest stats. Tait-Jones is the leader in conference boards, collecting an average of 8.8 a game, 114 total. McHenry leads the league in the field, with a .549 field goal percentage. Darren Williams has the most assists in the conference, averaging 5.1 a game and is third at the free throw line with a .850 free throw percentage.
Penguin Plunge
Dominican is 10th in the conference standings, 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the PacWest. The Penguins top two leaders are Justin Brown and Jake Blazona. DU's Brown has the fourth most blocked shots and the Penguin's Blazona has the third most assists in the conference.
