IRVINE, Calif.-- Mandi Kawaha was named this week's PacWest Defender of the Week for her standout defensive skills against Academy of Art in the Vulcans' 66-58 victory last Thursday in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
The Vulcans held the Urban Knights to 58 points with their relentless defensive pressure which also led to 18 Urban Knight turnovers. Kawaha led on the defensive front with a team-high of eight rebounds. Kawaha also recorded her first block of the season and snagged a season-high of four steals against ART U. Kawaha's season total of 11 steals makes her 20th in the PacWest Conference's top 25 for most steals.
Kawaha also led the Vulcans offensive pursuit on Thursday night with 16 points. She is currently the third highest scorer in the PacWest averaging 18.5 points a game.
